What Is The Function of RAM in Computer?

Hello, Today we learn What is the function of RAM in Computer?

In this post, I will explain the function of RAM Memory in detail.

This Article is Best on the whole internet.

If you read this article carefully, you can understand all about the Function of RAM in a computer system.

I Guaranteed you, after reading this article you will not need to read any other Articles. In fact, our reader’s satisfy in this blog post.

What is the Function of RAM in Computer?

The computer memory RAM ( Random Access Memory ) is a store any types of data for a short time.

It means RAM memory is used for short-term data.

The main purpose of RAM in a computer is to read and write any data. RAM memory works with the computer's hard disk.

Let us understand this with an example.

For example, when we open a Word file, the Word file is stored in the computer's hard disk before it opens, and as soon as the Word file is opened the Word file is stored in the computer's RAM.

I hope you understand.

Basic & Main Function of RAM

There are many basic and main functions of random access memory, which are given below.

  • Reading Files
  • Temporary Storage
  • Loading Applications

1.) Reading Files

This is also the work of RAM memory. Your computer hard disk stores large amounts of data. And because of storing large amounts of data, the hard disk slowdown of your computer works.

Due to storing a large amount of data on a computer hard disk, if you have to retrieve a file, then you have to search that file in your computer which takes a lot of time because all the data on the hard disk is scattered.

When you search any data in the computer, then your computer's hard disk rotates at thousands of rotations per minute, causing delays.

To make this time work, your computer system stores the first time of any data in the RAM to read the files from the drive.

Computer RAM reads and loads any data faster than a hard disk.

Let us consider reading files to be an example.

As your computer system has a large amount of data stored in it, and you have to open a word file named XYZ.

So you will search in your computer and open it after searching, then it takes some time to open because RAM reads that file and as soon as it is opened, the Word file gets stored in RAM.

And when you are work done, then you close that word file and then you have to again work on that word file, then as soon as you open that word file again, that word file opens immediately.

Because that word file is already present in your RAM.

I hope you understand.

2.) Temporary Storage

That program or files of the computer which have been used, then RAM saves the data in a temporary way, which is the main function of the computer RAM.

RAM also stores the data that is used resentingly or the programs or files that are being used repeatedly in your computer system.

Let us understand this by example.

Like you opened many programs and files in your computer system and closed it again after it was work done.

So all the programs and files that you had open, then RAM stores those programs and files, and the computer RAM sees that you are opening the which programs and files again and again.

Ram only stores those programs and files which are used again and again and the rest erases all other programs and files that are not in use.

So that your computer can work faster.

I hope you understand.

3.) Loading Applications

Loading a software application is also the main function of RAM.

Any software or application opens in the computer using Ram itself.

Let us understand this by example.

Like some kind of software is installed on your computer and you have to open the application of video editing.

And as soon as you open that video editing application, it is first loaded into the RAM of the computer and opens after loading.

Even though that video editing application is installed on your computer hard disk, the video editing application has to use RAM to open.

I hope you understand.
